Cost Trendline

Visualize how costs and decisions on your project have been trending with the Cost Trendline.

The Cost Trendline is the first chart on the project Dashboard and helps project teams visualize how the costs on their projects have been trending over time, as well as how decisions made on Items have affected those trends. There are two main views of the Cost Trendline, each telling a different story.

Cost Trendline Views

All Milestones View

The All Milestones view of the Cost Trendline displays how the Estimate, Budget, and Running Total have trended over the full duration of the project. This view can be displayed in two different ways. The Trend view shows the cost at each Milestone, while the Detailed view shows all of the minor cost adjustments made to the Estimate or Budget between Milestones. Hovering over a point on the chart displays the project's cost summary at that point in time, similar to the navigation panel. Clicking a point on the chart will launch the Milestone Summary Report.

Active Milestone View

The Active Milestone view of the Cost Trendline displays how the Running Total is trending compared to the Estimate and Budget in the current Milestone. This view also includes a yellow hatched area above and below the Running Total, which represents the minimum and maximum available range based on pending Items that still need a decision. This allows your team to quickly see whether or not you have a clear path to the target Budget. Hovering over a point on the chart displays a change related to an Item. Clicking a point on the chart will open the Item Detail view of that Item.

Points are added to this view anytime an Item is created, changes status, its Estimate is updated, is attached/detached as an Option, is moved into the Active Milestone, or a Contingency or Allowance adjustment is made within an Item.

Cost Per Unit Display

The costs in both views can be displayed as either the Total cost or as a cost per unit of measure. After entering quantities for each unit of measure within the Milestone, you will be able to display the costs in the chart as a cost per unit, like $/GSF.
