Timeline Overview
The Timeline offers a high-level view of upcoming dates and deliverables for all stakeholders to see.
Timeline Presentation
The Presentation view of timeline consists of an interactive Gantt chart, an Item Distribution chart, and a list view of your scheduled activities.

Tip: Zoom into a section of the Timeline by:
- Clicking and dragging the crosshairs over the Timeline.
- Using the sliders on either side of the Timeline.
- Clicking the Options
button to the far right of an activity and selecting Zoom to.
Timeline Activities
The timeline visualizes your project plan and tracks progress. Use different activity types to highlight key events and milestones.
Types of Activities
There are three main types of activities in the Join Project Timeline:
- Phases - A span of time during the project where other activities occur.
- Phases have a Start Date and End Date with a Duration greater than zero days.
- Phases are shown as blue bars on the Timeline. Parent phases are shown with taller ends on each end of the bar.
- Examples include: Schematic Design Phase, Estimating, Preconstruction, Construction, etc.
- Milestones - A significant point in time that occurs during the project, typically coinciding with a new issuance of contract documents and published estimates.
- Milestones have a Start Date and no End Date or Duration.
- Milestones are shown as blue flags on the Timeline. The Active Milestone is the blue-filled flag.
- Examples include: 50% Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, GMP, etc.
- Events - A significant, single-day occurrence in the project schedule that is important to be aware of or track.
- Events have a Start Date and End Date that match with a zero-day duration.
- Events are shown as red-orange diamonds on the Timeline.
- Examples include: Proposal Due, Notice to Proceed, OAC Meeting, Turnover, etc.
Note: Activity Start Dates, End Dates, Durations, Predecessors, and Successors can all be edited from the Timeline Workspace view.
Tip: Plan your work by assigning Items to upcoming Events (zero-day activities) such as OAC meetings or decision deadlines.
Item Distribution Chart
Between the Timeline and list view, there is a chart that shows the count of Items with a due date in each time period. This is a great way to track which Items are past due (red), which ones are upcoming (yellow), and which ones have already had a decision made (grey).
Hovering over a bar will give you a summary of the Items in that time period, and clicking the hyperlink will take you to the Items List filtered for that time period.

Tip: Use the Item Distribution Chart to ensure upcoming work is spread out evenly across the weeks–this helps keep your workflow balanced.
