[Timeline](https://success.join.build/en/knowledge/timeline?hsLang=en#timeline) # Importing a Schedule ## Learn how to load your Schedule into Join, step by step ### Importing a Schedule Importing a schedule is one of the first steps when setting up a new project in Join. This process helps establish your Project Timeline so you can begin planning Milestones, Estimates, and decisions with accurate, up-to-date information aligned with your master schedule. The import process includes two phases: 1. **Export your schedule data** Join supports two schedule export formats: 1. 1. **[Microsoft Project](https://success.join.build/en/knowledge/importing-a-schedule#exporting-from-MSProject)**  - export your schedule as an **.XML file** 2. [**Oracle Primavera Cloud or P6**](https://success.join.build/en/knowledge/importing-a-schedule#exporting-from-opc) - export your schedule as an **.XER file** 3. **Other tools** - Join supports imports from [**Phoenix Project Manager**](https://success.join.build/en/knowledge/importing-a-schedule#exporting-from-phoenix), **Planera**, **Outbuild**, and other tools by way of Primavera P6 export. If your tool has this export option, give it a try and contact [support@join.build](mailto:support@join.build) if you run into trouble. ***Tip:** Before exporting, make sure your schedule is current. Join preserves the task names, dates, and structure exactly as they appear in your scheduling tool. All imported activities will be **read-only** in Join.*       2.    **Import your schedule into Join** 1. 1. Navigate to the Timeline page. 2. Enable editing of the Timeline by clicking the toggle. 3. This can be done from within Timeline or in the Milestones tab.* ### Undoing an Import To undo an import, you can quickly bulk delete activities. Use **Shift + Click** or **Ctrl + Click** to select multiple activities, then click the **Delete selected** button in the bottom action bar. Join automatically matches the Unique Identifier (UID) between files to update existing activities and create new ones as needed. 1. ![Screenshot 2026-01-13 at 5.00.33 PM](https://success.join.build/hs-fs/hubfs/Screenshot%202026-01-13%20at%205.00.33%20PM.png?width=323&height=235&name=Screenshot%202026-01-13%20at%205.00.33%20PM.png) Select the **Do not re-import previously deleted Activities** option to exclude specific activities or sections of your master schedule file. For example, if you imported only a summary of Construction Activities while details are still being developed, Join will skip those deleted activities on all future re-imports. ***Next Step:** Once your schedule is in Join, it is time to build out your first [Milestone](https://success.join.build/en/knowledge/milestones#main-content) with an Estimate and Budget and* [add some items](https://success.join.build/en/knowledge/adding-items?hsLang=en). ### Exporting Your Master Schedule In some organizations, schedule files are managed by a dedicated scheduling team or gated by user permissions. If you don’t have access to the file, contact your scheduler or another person with access to request it before proceeding with the import. #### Exporting From Microsoft Project 1. Open your project in **Microsoft Project** (Professional or Standard edition). 2. Click the **File** menu and select **Export**. 3. Click **Save Project as File** to choose a folder location. 4. In the **Save Project as File** list, select **XML Format (\*.xml)**. 5. When the file is ready, download it to your computer. #### Exporting from Phoenix Project Manager 1. Access **Tools** in the top navigation bar and select **Export**. 2. Export as **Primavera P6 XER.** 3.
