Working on a large complex project with multiple phases or a multi-building campus project? Here are some best practices to consider when choosing between a single project or multiple projects in a Program.
Managing as a Single Project
Managing a multi-phase or multi-building project as a single project is possible by utilizing custom categories to organize project information by phase, location, or work package. This approach benefits you by allowing you to view and make changes within a single project. Each time the milestone estimate is updated, or a new Item is created, a single project can sometimes be the preferred approach. To provide the ability to view or report on specific phases of the project, custom categories can be used to filter data when needed.
Managing Multiple Projects with a Program Dashboard
One challenge in multi-phase or multi-building projects is the ability to understand the combined overall cost of the project while each project carries a separate running total. There are projects with specific contract requirements that warrant individual projects to be managed separately in Join. To help provide an overall combined dashboard of individual projects in Join, create separate projects and then combine them to create a Program. The Program dashboard provides a high-level summary of the projects with the ability to show/hide individual project data. Once a Program is created, its dashboard can be shared with the project team. All changes to each project are still managed within the separate projects of the Program.
